With 4,000 new ebooks being released everyday it is becoming increasing difficult for authors to break away from the crowd and get their novel noticed. Trying to find readers who will take the time to read their book and then actually write a review on sites like Amazon & Goodreads is a daunting task.
I’ve been a book blogger for 4 1/2 years. I am overwhelmed by the number of requests I get everyday from authors who are trying to get their books reviewed. My Kindle now has thousands of books on it, many of which I really want to read but can’t get to because I’m just one person and there are only 24 hours in a day. Well established book bloggers are all in a similar place. There are so many wonderful books we want to read but it is just not possible to get to all of them.
I have been setting up blog tours for 2 years and have noticed a decline in the number of reviews on many tours. This is mainly because reviewers are so swamped they are months out on reviews.
There is no question that reviews help to sell books. Books with more reviews typically sell more copies than books that have fewer reviews. Sites like Bookbub offer readers dozens of free books each week and often bring a spike in sales but less than 1% of those readers actually post a book review.
So that is where this site comes in. I am trying to get great books into the hands of readers who are willing to read and review them. As a reader you win because you will receive a great ebook for free in exchange for your honest review. As an author you win because you will actually get honest reviews posted by readers who have actually read your book.
The books I feature on eBooksforReview will be well screened. While I personally will not have been able to read most of them they will only be offered to readers if they meet certain criteria. The criteria for books chosen will vary a little from book to book and genre to genre but I will be striving to feature high quality books that are worth reading. There are thousands of free books out there. If you just want a free book with no obligation to post a review go to bookbub or a similar site.
While I hope you love the books you receive and are willing to post a review you are under no obligation to do so!
Policies and Guidelines
Guidelines for Authors
Great Cover – People do judge a book by its cover. Most readers will forgive a few minor editing errors if the book comes packaged in a great cover. If you don’t have a professional cover then most likely readers will not even give your books a chance.
New & Established Authors – While you will see some books by first time authors most will be by established authors. I am open to featuring first time authors but they will have to convince me their book is worth my reader’s time.
G, PG or PG-13 – Not all books will be “clean reads” but you aren’t going to find erotica, Bodice Ripping Romances, Gruesome Horror or even Super Sexy Young Adult/New Adult books on here. I don’t typically read these books so I won’t be promoting them. The last young adult/new adult book I read would have received an R to X rating if it were a movie. I will let you know ahead of time if books are clean reads or not. If they are not I will tell you what content you can expect (sex, language, violence) so you can decide if that book is a good fit for your reading preferences. Some books are not appropriate for all readers. There are many PG-13 movies I don’t let my teenagers watch unless I run them through our clearplay filter. This will be the same for the books I offer for review here, there will be content in some of them that is not appropriate for every reader but they will not be R or X rated.
Publisher – If a book is well written I don’t care whether it is traditionally or self-published. The majority of books I will be offering will be by indie or small press publishers simply because most traditional publishers are unwilling to provide me free ebooks to send to readers. Don’t let that scare you off. Yes there is a lot of garbage out there but the majority of my favorite books in the past couple of years have been published independently. There are some amazing books by amazing authors and readers who say they won’t read self-published books have no idea what they are missing out on.
Genres – Clean Romance, Contemporary Young & New Adult, Click Lit and Historical Romance usually receive the best response and highest number of review requests. However I will be featuring books from other genres if I feel they will be well received.
Submitting a Book – I currently only accept a few books each month to feature. I am very selective on the books I choose to feature because it takes me a long time to manage these campaigns. Unlike many review services those accepting books for review through this site are actual readers. They are not being paid for their reviews. They are blog readers who trust my recommendation that the books I am providing are worth reading. There is a fee for this service that is similar to what I charge to set up a blog tour. Please email me if you would like to be considered or visit my site for more information.
Guidelines for Readers
Quantity – Readers always have the option of selecting only the books that appeal to them. That means some months there may be nothing that is a good fit and other months there may be multiple books they agree to read.
Negative Reviews – Not every book is for every reader. If you start a book and find it isn’t for you please stop reading and email me. Life is too short to read books you don’t love. If you choose to continue reading and post a negative review that is perfectly acceptable as there is no requirement to post a positive review. I personally believe books need a “healthy” review profile which is a mix of positive and negative reviews (hopefully with the positive out weighing the negative). These books are given to you in exchange for an honest review however author bashing is unacceptable.
Author Bashing – Readers who bash or attack authors will no longer be sent review copies. There are easy ways to write negative reviews with out tearing an author to pieces. Example One – 1 star – this book wasn’t for me, the pacing was off, I didn’t connect with the characters and there were many editing errors that should have been addressed prior to the book being published, I can’t recommend this books to anyone. Example Two – 1 star – this author should never have published a book, its is a worthless piece of trash, she must be mentally unstable and society would be better served if she was locked up in an institution. I’m sure you get the point the first example is acceptable the second is not.
Piracy – All books featured on this site are copyrighted. Copying, sharing or selling ebooks is never acceptable. Sadly enough there are dishonest people in this world. If you are one of them please go somewhere else. All readers agree to never sell, share or copy books they receive from this site.
Time Frame – If you accept a book please try to post a review within 60 days. If you start reading and find the book isn’t for you just email me to let me know. If life happens and you need more time just let me know. You are under NO obligation to post a review. Authors offer there books up on this site hoping you will take the time to read and review it. If you choose not to there is no penalty. Simply withdraw by posting a note in the tracking form.
Follow-Up – I do send out a reminder email asking if you have read the book. You are under no obligation to review the book. This is just a courtesy reminder.
FTC Compliance – There are FTC rules and regulations that state product reviewers must disclose if they receive a product for free. To comply with this regulation it is suggested that you include a line in your review that says something like “I received a free ebook review copy of this book but was under no obligation to post a positive review.”
Mailing List – Be sure you are on my email list so you don’t miss a book when it becomes available. Some titles will only be available for request for a 48 – 72 hour window. There are 2 ways to do this. The first is via the subscribe to blog via email link in the right column of this blog. The other is to join my mailchimp newsletter found on this link: http://eepurl.com/5JKmH
Questions – Please ask by email or on this post. Eventually this will be converted to a policy page once I have the kinks worked out so if there is something I still need to address please let me know.
